Sewing with the Cricut!
Hi everyone! I wanted to add some pizazz to my teacher chair that I use in my classroom so I decided to add some applique using my favorite apple from the Preserves cartridge! I know I say that all the cartridges are my favorite but I think this one really IS my favorite! LOL! My chair is a directors chair (see more pics below) so it is canvas. The fabric that I used for all the applique was canvas with the exception of the stem, seeds, and leaves. The leaves were a really heavy upholstery fabric. So since the fabric was so heavy I put heat and bond paper on my cricut mat and put the pressure setting to low. Then I cut out everything on the heat and bond. I used Learning Curve for the ABC and 123. Then I ironed the pieces onto the corresponding fabrics and sewed them onto the chair back. I had a blast doing this! The cricut is such a wonderful tool! Thanks for looking!

ReplyDeleteGreat job with your chair!!
ReplyDeleteWendy,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it! I have yet to use my Cricut for applique but I want to so bad.
I think I may gather a few scraps and (try) to make myelf a quilt or maybe a placemat for starters. LOL
Thanks so much for sharing, I always enjoy your work
Stacy
Just me again, LOL
ReplyDeleteI wanted to ask you what settings you used on the cricut. Besides the pressure, did you adjust the speed or the blade depth, deep blade housing?
Stacy
Hey Stacy! Thanks for your comments!! :) I only adjusted the pressure because I cut it with Design Studio and that is an automatic speed. My blade depth is set at 4. (I don't have the deep blade housing....on my list though!:) I did discover that the heat and bond would stick to the mat and not come off on the small details (like the seeds and numbers) so I flipped the heat and bond upside down so that the sticky part was facing up.
ReplyDeleteWow, that card is fantastic!!! I haven't had much luck sewing on cards, but I'm going to have to try your method!
ReplyDeleteWow! that is sooo cute. I love to sew and quilt but haven't tried using my cricut to cut fabric. You have inspied me to give it a try.
